Midway students’ efforts result in covered bus stop - WacoTrib.com: Community News: NeighborPlus: "he Kindness & Compassion Club was a major component leading to Hewitt Elementary’s Youth Philanthropists of the Year Award presented on National Philanthropy Day by the Association of Fundraising Professionals in November.
The KC Club is part of the district’s Rachel’s Challenge program. The group’s purpose is to keep the school mindful of serving the community."

Twenty Two Oh Five | Sasha Dichter's Blog: "What I didn’t know, until last night, was that a few of my son’s classmates took it upon themselves to raise money for Acumen as a thank you. They self-organized and went around to other classes in the school, talking about Acumen and asking kids to bring in bottles they would return for the 5 cent deposits.

So the $22.05 represents 441 bottles that 5th graders collected and returned because they wanted to help people they’ve never met who have less than they do."

This unique program gives young high school members a taste of philanthropy. In 2003, South Central Community Foundation hired Maggie Southard as program manager to develop a youth philanthropy program.

The AFP Awards Committee will make the final selection in July, and the National Philanthropy Day Honors will take place in New York City on Nov. 12, 2015."
