Top teen philanthropist contest recognizes charitable contributions of young Canadians - Nova Scotia News - TheChronicleHerald.ca: "It’s a good thing, then, that Canadian parents are doing a good job of raising socially responsible teenagers. A recent survey suggests this is the case. The survey results indicated that some 84 per cent of Canadians from 13 to 19 volunteer at least five hours a year to charitable causes. This is compared with 42 per cent of Canadians overall. And when it comes to donating their own money, much of it earned in part-time jobs, teens report giving an average of $293 a year. With some three million teens in the country, that number translates into tens of millions of dollars being put to work in their communities."
