These are among the findings of a new study by DoSomething.org called the “Community Service and College Admissions Survey 2011.” Now in its third year, the study aims to illustrate how college admissions officers value community service.

Adam showed up at the Illinois Valley Food Pantry with a two-axle moving van bearing non-perishable foods stacked 3 feet high in the back. In another vehicle, workers from Hy-Vee arrived with dozens of frozen turkeys Adam purchased with the loose change people donated in lieu of food.

But not to Della Rae.
The Lake Oswego woman’s Donors Resource has been a groundbreaker from the start, and so she totally believed a carefully chosen group of students from Riverdale High School would succeed when she gave them control of the nonprofit’s operation last March.

This fall, the young women in Julie Keller’s Clothing I class and Fashion Club members have made about 25 simple dresses to donate to girls around the world through the “Hope 4 Women International” charity.
The charity’s goal is to create “a world where every little girl owned at least one dress.”
