Jones, senior in family studies and human services, and Bruns, senior in marketing, were selected by the American Humanics program and the W.K. Kellogg Foundation as the fall 2010 Next Generation Nonprofit Leaders."

The Importance of Reflective Philanthropy: Lessons for donors interested in innovation High Impact Philanthropy: "As part of ourYouth Perspectives in Philanthropy series, JYPI201 teen funderEric Miller discussed his passion for an organization called PlayPumps International which sought to overcome the ubiquitous fresh-water shortage problem faced by many African communities. The solution involved pumping water from currently inaccessible underground reservoirs, the highlight being that the pump would be powered by a roundabout, so that when children played with it, clean water would be pumped into a water storage tank. As Eric noted, “I fell in love with PlayPumps because the idea was so basic, so simple, and so helpful.” It was a simple “fun” technological solution to an important problem—lack of clean water."

In that time, she met a former president, appeared on 'The Oprah Winfrey Show' and raised more than $830,000 through her Kids Caring 4 Kids organization. But a few years later, the motivation that called her to action was starting to wane.
'It's hard to come so far from the moment I said I wanted to help these kids,' said the Wheaton resident, now 17."

Teach children importance of philanthropy Evansville Courier & Press
Teach children importance of philanthropy Evansville Courier & Press: "As parents, we have many hopes and dreams for our children. We want to build their moral foundation, give them values and encourage them to be productive people.
Sometimes it becomes difficult to instill values in our children because we may not know about or have the tools necessary to implement values.
Youth workers, teachers, grandparents and other adult mentors also take an active role and have a great deal of influence over our children's values' development. Yet, it is most important for children to develop their own sense of social activism and philanthropic personality."
