Middle school students turn into young philanthropists | Prior Lake American
What started back in March when Twin Oaks Middle School counselors gave a randomly selected group of 15 students and three teachers each $50 bills for the “Big Give” project, blossomed into more than $4,500 in charitable giving.
With $50 in tote, students and staff set out to make an impact in their corner of the world by helping others in need. Students and staff came up with a variety of ideas ranging from helping animals by donating to the Humane Society to making teddy bears and donating them to police to give to children taken out of traumatic situations."

Midland High School Students in Philanthropy on Tuesday awarded $10,000 to a variety of local nonprofit agencies during a ceremony at First Presbyterian Church.
Getting up in pairs, youngsters in the 20-member group, which is a credit class, gave a brief synopsis of each agency and what the funds would be used for."

AFP Chapter members share successes and challenges in building their YIP programs.
At the 45th Annual AFP International Conference, attendees of the Youth in Philanthropy affinity session shared challenges and successes of youth programs. One of the most prominent issues discussed was the difficulty of establishing continuity of volunteer leadership within the chapters. The group attendees, including members from several chapters, as well as others interested in youth philantrhopy, discussed strategies for developing long-term volunteer support for chapter YIP programs and ways to collaborate with local programs, among other ideas. AFP’s YIP Task Force will work with chapter’s to share components of successful programs including examples of leadership, continuity and resources.
