Finding Purpose Through Philanthropy « Jewish Community Federation: "One of our new regular features at Challah Back is Meet the Board, where you get to “meet” this year’s YAD Board. Find out why so many people get involved in YAD and what inspires them!
While I have been in the Bay Area for 12 years, I only recently became involved with YAD a few years ago. After moving here, I became active in philanthropy work and in supporting the arts. I decided to change my focus as to how I was spending my time and where I giving back after my grandmother’s passing. It was at that time that I felt a strong need to get involved in the Jewish community and more importantly to stay connected to her in a meaningful way."

The Wallet : Are Your Kids Ready to Manage Their Money — Or Yours?
The Wallet : Are Your Kids Ready to Manage Their Money — Or Yours?: "Among focal points today’s wealthy kids need, in Howell’s view: savings, investing, entrepreneurship and philanthropy. Parents should take their young children to the bank, involving them in financial decisions and processes — such as setting savings targets, even for small amounts of money — early on. Howell also recommends investment clubs for kids, and says parents should teach their children the importance of developing the education and leadership skills they’ll need to make money themselves — as many of their parents have."

Orlando Philanthropy Examiner: Bringing Up Philanthropy
Orlando Philanthropy Examiner: Bringing Up Philanthropy: "At ages four and six, I am still wondering if my children are going to grow into compassionate, philanthropic young men or the type who only give occasionally at Christmas and during natural disasters. But I am doing what I can and praying for God to take care of the rest. A recent article by Tiffany Stuart in the monthly Focus on the Family magazine outlined four principles for “Raising Kids Who Care.” These are:
1. Lead by example.
2. Family service.
3. Use the power of media.
4. Let kids care."

Other years, the Sunday school students assembled food items to take to a mainland food pantry, but this year one 11-year-old came to Mrs. Dawbin and said she had heard her parents talking about how winter might be hard for some people on the island and wondered if the students could do something about that. While none of the children personally know anyone who needs help, Krystal said 'some older people might need the pantry,' as might other people who were having trouble because 'prices are going up.'"
