(June 16, 2008) Looking for information on engaging youth in philanthropy? Grand Valley State University’s Dorothy A. Johnson Center for Philanthropy and Nonprofit Leadership has launched a new online resource for youth philanthropy programming and research.

The National Youth Philanthropy Clearinghouse, a project that grew out of the Youth in Philanthropy Summit hosted by AFP in 2006, includes links to youth philanthropy programs, youth grant makers, and public policy information."

When they say young people can make a difference, four students at St. Mary's Secondary School in Cobourg could be the poster kids.

McKenna Ainsworth, Casey Minifie, Meaghan Morel and Megaera Bonsall took part in a competition in the Youth and Philanthropy Initiative -- a project of the Toskan-Casale Foundation -- and came away with a $5,000 donation for Northumberland Services For Women.

It was done as part of their religion class, Megaera explained."

The Press Association: Harry attends Lesotho charity meet: "The Prince will visit pupils from Cathays High School, in Cathays who have been raising money for Malopo High School in Lesotho since 2005.

The students have carried out a number of events and raised funds to buy a small herd of cows, fencing, a milking parlour, a cow shed, a greenhouse, seedlings, and irrigation system including a new water tower and pump.

Four Year 12 pupils are expected to visit the school in October to help build a bunkhouse."

New EFC head: Turkey needs to train young philanthropists: "Pointing out that Turkey has a young population compared to the aging population of much of Europe, he said the country must take advantage of this situation. Vilar noted that the Turkish foundation sector is quite dynamic and that it will provide a good source of partnerships for European foundations. 'The most important financial groups [in Turkey] are assuming their responsibility through creation of foundations in many areas. This will help to create an independent sector that will contribute to education, social development and social entrepreneurship,' stated Vilar.

He said philanthropy needs to adapt to today's global challenges and needs to fill the gap in services that are not provided by the government."
