The CREATE Foundation's individual philanthropy-nurturing focus begins with its Northeast Mississippi Youth Foundation, a regionwide effort to teach adolescent participants the value of giving back to their communities.
Last weekend, NEMYF, as the organization is called, made grants of $2,811 - 5 percent of its fund-raising efforts since late summer 2007 - for five organizations and initiatives. All grantees are human service or education focused."

This year, 33 student members raised a total of $5,800, with three key fundraisers ('Friends of Philanthropy” T-shirt sponsorships, Annual Frito Chili Pie Supper and Home for the Holidays Playhouse fundraiser). When matched by the matching grant provided by the Abell-Hanger Foundation and the Helen Greathouse Charitable Trust, funds totaling $20,800 will be invested in numerous nonprofit agencies that do so much in serving our citizens."

Kurtz's entry, which planned to use the money to purchase fleece and other materials so that the youth groups of Hopewell Christian Fellowship in Elverson could make blankets for sick and lonely children in area shelters and hospitals, garnered three of the four possible votes from the Record's panel of judges."

9NEWS - Local - Article - Deciding how to spend their pennies wisely: "The Meiklejohn Elementary School students have been elected to a roundtable at their school to decide where $1,250 that their classmates helped raise in pennies will be donated. The students are taking part in the Penny Harvest, the largest youth philanthropy program in the country, with 14 other grade schools in Colorado. Each follows a curriculum to donate $1,250 and follows it up with a service project this spring open to students throughout their school."
